do i only use the internet when i'm bored of 'real life'? thing is, i want to keep in contact with my friends ...

recently watched (or tried to watch!) tideland by terry gilliam, with em. very interesting, beautiful and horrible. also reminded me of the time i met him and told him the observation my brother made about his films, and i shook his hand and he wouldn't let go for what seemed like forever.

mm had a sign saying 'closed until further notice'. need to work out where my energy comes from and contribute to it better.

sorry i missed w's gig. wanted to come but arrangements were hard.

uh ... i like 'the sartorialist' and 'hel looks' for pictures of people in clothes.

as a prefix, from latin, 'homo' means (and derives) 'human'

eg. homo sapiens

as a prefix, from ancient greek, 'homo' means (and derives) 'same'

eg. homosexual

went to see this guy benji reid and his group perform last night. wow. two pieces of hip-hop performance art, encompassing poetry, body-popping, singing, rapping, djing and tight-as-you-like bass and drums. all combined and choreagraphed into a seriously powerful event - voicing deep messages (hip-hop history, appropriation, media manipulation, being outside of the mainstream, existential angst, to name a few) combined with humour and loads of hip-hop references. i think a lot of people (including me) came away having learnt (or felt) a thing or two. a night to remember ...

was very impressed that such a show should come to little canterbury, and that these performers (hailing from manchester) should have the courage to bring such a strong message to such a little backwater, predominantly white, town such as ours.

i went with the kids from the youth club where i work, and two of them, budding djs, warmed up for the main act. it was their first gig and they played really well. and we all got to meet the stars of the show after too.

it left me all a-buzzing. :)

soldiers' voices

some of the kids i'm working with have got fathers who are in iraq right now.

just looking through this photo essay. reminds me once again how different other people's lives can be to mine.

and that's to say nothing of the lives of iraqi soldiers and civilians, dead and alive. i guess i've yet to read their stories ...
